White House Phelps-A-Thon
The Phelps-A-Thon was a success! We raised hundreds of dollars for the the local group, Gays and Lesbians Opposing Violence (GLOV), which works to oppose all forms of hate-motivated violence.

Fred Phelps’ clan is coming to the White House! The “God Hates Fags” Westboro Baptist Church is planning to picket the White House because of President Obama’s support for LGBT equality. WBC says they are praying for “God to shortly destroy the Antichrist (Obama).” Fred Phelps and his group travel all across the United States spreading their message of hate and lies about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.
However, when the Phelps group comes to the White House to protest President Obama support for LGBT equality, they will actually be raising money for a local group called Gays and Lesbians Opposing Violence (GLOV), which works to oppose all forms of hate-motivated violence.
Driving Equality is hosting a Phelps-A-Thon to counter Fred Phelps’ hateful message. For every minute the “God Hates Fags” clan is protesting, we will be collecting donations for GLOV. (Pledge Online)
The Phelps clan will be protesting at the White House from 11:30 AM to 12:15 PM on March 30th. You can pledge any amount you chose, whether it be $0.25, $0.50, $1, or even $2 for every minute they protest. You can even pledge a flat rate for the entire time the group will be demonstrating. The point of this Phelps-A-Thon is two fold. First, we are using Phelps’ own hateful message to raise funds for a good cause, one that will help counter the lies that are being spread about LGBT people. Second, After the event, we will send Phelps a thank you card, telling him how much money he raised for LGBT equality. This will certainly upset the group and it is possible that they will 
stop protesting in order to stop our fundraising.
On the “God Hates Fags” website, Phelps has this to say about the upcoming protest at the White House:
“White House - Pray for God to SHORTLY destroy Antichrist! 1600 Pennsylvania During his LYING address to Congress on 2/24/09 this raving filthy beast had the NERVE to end with these words "God bless you, and may God continue to bless america." Shocking that he was not immediately cast into hell, but God doeth all things well. This is the face of the antichrist who attempts to call upon the name of the True and Living God and is furtherance of his lies. God is NOT blessing this evil land. Uh, HELLO?! Here is the face of how God is actually, and factually CURSING this rebellious nation: Revelation 6:3 ¶ And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. 4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword. 5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. Anyone who has a clue can see the signs of the times, but not you clueless brutes who have your eyes blinded and your ears stopped up. The Lord has dealt with other like rebels, but this time he will fully complete the work he has begun! AMEN!
We can turn these hateful words into positive change.
Driving Equality is a trek across America to raise awareness of the various forms of discrimination faced by LGBT people in each state of the nation. Highlighting the differences in rights, laws, and amendments between the states will shed light on the current social standing of queer individuals today. I hope to create a dialogue about the disparities across the nation, and what can be done to end discrimination for all.
